Final- Flashback Friday.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

http://prezi.com/jqgqinvmdywe/how-does-your-media-product-represent-particular-social-groups/

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Our final product would be distributed by E4 or possibly Film 4 at a showing time of 9:00pm as these media institutions are both in the same group and aim there footage to a wide range of audiences but mostly at the young audiences from 15 upwards.

We have aimed our film at the age range of 15 upwards because our film can show immature behaviour and alcohol use. We wanted to do a teen orientated film because it has a high consumption and because after research and looking at the TV drama skins, felt like it would be the most interesting and 'do-able'  way of showing a party because it is most likely for teenagers to through a party.

Who would be the audience for your media product and how did you attract/address your audience?

We have aimed our final product at the age group of 15 and over and we have attracted our audience by using teenage actors who represent a wide range of stereotyped teenagers which means anyone can relate to a character. We have aimed our film at the age range of 15 because after researching classifications on the British Board of Film Classification website we saw that it allowed use to show drug use as long as it doesn't promote the use of drugs, show imitable behaviour but not dwell on detail, use strong language but not use aggressive and very strong language and finally show sexual activity but without strong detail.

I have collected some audience feedback by posting our film on facebook. I collected audience feedback from my piers because they are all with in the age range of our film classification :-

What have you learnt about technologies from the rocess of constructing this product?

http://prezi.com/43pje0woy1mf/what-have-you-learnt-about-technologies-from-the-procss-of-constructing-this-product/

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the rogression from it to the full product?

Through out the whole process of creating both my preliminary and main task I have learnt a wide range of tips and techniques about the world of media. I have been able to collect research into media institutions and have analysed other films and videos using the four media concepts of camera, sound, editing and mise-en-scene and I have applied what i have learnt and the idea's i have picked up to both my preliminary and main task.We have also learnt how to story board our idea's, including transitions, camera angles, timing for each clip and detail into what is happening in that scene.

I have learnt how to achieve simple camera shots and angles ranging from match-on-action, over the shoulder, point of view shot, close-up and mid-shot. I have also learnt how to manage and organise time, props, location and actors for the filming. This was quite a challenge for our group and we had a few issues on finding a location for our party scene. However we were able to over come this problem.

Through the process of creating our final piece i have learnt how to edit using Final Cut Pro and have learnt new ways of adding sound, transitions and text. I have also learnt how to cut out clips and add still images, from watching tutorials on YouTube. During the process of creating our film I have noticed a few errors in the film we have produced such as a continuity error where a camera is in one scene and gone in the other.

There is also an unwanted person sat in the top screen of one shot and finally in the mise-en-scene you can see our storyboard lying on the bathroom floor.

Overall I have been able to learn a wide range of techniques that i have applied to both my preliminary and main task, and i am very happy with the outcome and will be taking what I have learnt to the next stage.

Final editing.

We have now finished our editing process for the main task. We have created our titles, showing the actors and crew. We have also managed to put the music onto the footage and altered it so that it doesn't drown out the sound of the camera flash when the still images appear on screen. Finally we have added some last minute transitions such as a Cross fade so that the footage doesn't look so jumpy. I think we have done well today and we have been able to export our film on to quick time movie so that it is ready to put onto Youtube and post onto our blogs.

Music.

We have had a small problem with our music for our film as 'Our Way' by Christina Novelli was removed from youtube and is unavailable from iTunes. However we were able to contact her manager:

Hi there my mate sent you a email and this is want you sent back.
I am Christina Novelli's manager. Thank-you for your request to use "Our Way" in your
video project.
I am pleased to confirm that you can use the track for your project.
Best wishes,
Rob King.
They were very pleased with this but however they are unable to get the song on iTunes or YouTube anymore. Is there any possibility that you could email the mp3 file, or know anywhere else they could get the music from.
Thank you for taking your time to read this, many thanks.
Zoe Tandy
The manager then contacted us back:
Hi Zoe,
I have attached the MP3 of 'Our Way' by Christina Novelli, for you, to this email.
I am happy to let you use the track for your project as mentioned in the previous e-mail. However, you must not upload, use or give the track to anyone else, for any other reason than the agreed project. I hope this helps, and i would love to see your finished project!
Good luck,
Best wishes,
Rob.
This has helped greatly and we are putting the music on our film next lesson, so that we can then do the finish touches and if need be match the video to the tempo of the track.

Editing process.

Today in our lesson we have  been able to accomplish a lot. We have speed up some of our footage so that is seems more dizzy and comical, we have also found a way to put our still images on a white boarder to make them look more like snap shots. So far our footage is at a total of 2 minutes 30, so we do need to cut it down by quite a bit. However we feel that  there is some things missing  and some parts can be quite slow and boring so we are going to try and take some more still images to slot into the longer clips and we have also filmed a variety of shot angels that we are importing. We are hoping to get our music onto an MP3 file as soon as possible so that we can match the footage with the tempo of the song.  We have also started to experiment with adding titles to get an idea on which ones we would like to use in the end.

Still images for flash backs in our film.

Scene of last nights party.
Scene of character drinking in toilet.
These are the images that we are using for our flashbacks in our film. We have decided to edit them using photo shop to make them much darker so that it looks like they are from the night before. They are in chronological order and will appear on the screen with a flash and the sound of a camera flash. We have figured out how to do this on Final Cut Pro from watching a tutorial on Youtube. We did this by selecting Dip to colour dissolve in the effects tab and then placing it at the beginning of the still image. We then changed the flash to white instead of black and increased the time to 3 seconds. To get the sound effect we went to finder, music and typed in camera, it then came up with camera sound effects and we chose camera shutter and draged it onto our time line just under our footage at the same time as the flash effect.

Scene of couple in bedroom.

Our Filming

Our group went out and did our filming on the Saturday 25th February. Unfortunately we only had a short amount of time to use the location but we were able to get our filming done. Each member of our group had a chance to film and we referred to our storyboard quite frequently. We also filmed a lot of extra footage so that for the editing process we have back up and different clips that we can choose from. Overall our filming went really well and we feel that we will not need to go and film anymore, but we will keep it in mind that we might find we have to shoot more during the editing process.

Main Task - Film Pitch.

This is our film pitch to show our planning and research and our overall concept.

Friday 3 February 2012

Christina Novelli 'Our Way'.

'Our Way' by Christina Novelli is the music we would like to use for our main task. We would like to use this music because it is fun, enigetic and aimed at a young audience. We are currently contacting the artist for permission to use her music. We chose to use Christina Novelli's music because she is an unsigned British artist.

Evaluation of preliminary task.

For our preliminary task we had to explore the skills of match-on-action, shot/reverse shot and the 180 degree rule. We started off by planning our concept and script. We looked at the many ideas for our footage and eventually chose to film in the dark room which would tie into our theme of a photographer who is late for a private meeting. We kept our script basic and short. However, during our filming process we did change a few of the lines and add some so that it was longer and told more of the story.

For our first scene, of the photographer walking quickly to her destination, we used a long shot to show the scene. However the opening scene does not really set the scene and it is only when the dialouge is exchangd that you start to understand the plot. We have then used a panning shot following the character opening and walking through the door, then cutting to the inside of the room. Our editing has worked really well and there is a nice continuity to the character entering the room.

Unfortunatly we did not shoot enough footage and for our editing in one of the scenes (of the character walking  towards the table then standing next to the table) there is a jump because of the lack of footage. We were also unable to shoot and shot/reverse shot. From this we have learnt that we have to have plenty of footage and to time our filming process so that we are not run short of filming time.

In our final clip there is a lot of unwanted of screen sound from classrooms and people in the background. For the future we now know that we could either edit it out using final cut pro  or use a location that is a quiet working environment.

Our quality of the footage is also 'fuzzy' and a little pixelated, so we have decided thjat filming in a darker room was  not such a good idea and that these areas are quite hard to film in. If we wanted to try this again we could use better, high quality cameras and introduce some interesting and dramatic lighting.

For our mise-en-scene we wanted to keep it simple and only hint that the main character is a photographer by having her wear a camera around her neck. We also hinted thst the second charater is a photographer by having her in a dark room where you produce photos. We also had some photos exchanged during one of the scenes.

In conclusion, i think that we have learn a lot from this filming process and we now know how to plan properly for our film, get the right and enough footage, how to edit our clip using final cut pro and how to do the simple methods of match-on-action, shot/reverse shot and the 180 degree rule. We also think  that our clip was good but we are able to understand were we went wrong and what we could do to ake it even better in the future and we will use this for our main task.
